About ISST
 
Institute of Social Studies Trust (ISST) is a 40 year old non-profit organization and was registered in 1980. ISST's overall aim is action led research for change with focus on work and well-being of the vulnerable communities from a gender perspective. It attempts to bridge the gaps between research, action and policy. ISST also has a community centre, the Saathi Youth Resource Centre located in Kalyanpuri Police Station, East Delhi. This centre is accessed by children from nearby slum communities mainly for free of cost support in education. 
 
Project description:
The research consultant will primarily work with a team of researchers engaged in the following projects:
 
Understanding Pastoral women’ work:  This study intends to unpack the relationship which pastoral women have with the forests and other ecosystems through the lens of work and economic empowerment. It attempts to understand the ‘process’, focusing on the involvement of pastoral women into cultivating, gathering and processing of Non Timber Forest Produce (NTFP) and what value does it hold for their work. The idea is also to contribute to the larger discourse of women and work, hence also visibilizing pastoral women’s work. 
 
Unpacking women’s Farmers’ strategies of Collectivizing: This project seeks to study a range of collective organizing of women farmers, from simple village level collectives, to national Forums like MAKAAM, Trade Unions, and even women Farmer Producer Organizations. This study places women farmers agency centre-stage as they claim their identity and seek entitlements at the community, state and in the market.
 
Methodology: Both studies would use mixed methods with a greater emphasis on qualitative methodologies that are reflexive to draw out and build on women’s lived experiences.
 
Roles and Responsibilities: 
Doing desk based research as per the required focused area of the study.
Following the methodology of the study and designing the tools with the team. 
Coordinating and collecting primary data based on the methodology and requirements of the study. 
Ensuring efficient data management and coordination between the team as well as the partners of the study. 
Conducting qualitative analysis based on the data collection and secondary research. 
Generating periodic written materials to be posted on web platforms. 
Participating in other activities of the organization as per requirement. 
 
 
Qualifications and Experience: 
At least Masters in Social Sciences along with 3-4 years of experience of working with women in the rural areas 
Ability to work through an interdisciplinary lens (especially with a focus on gender analysis, women and work, rural economy and ecology.
Well versed with qualitative research methodologies  along with a reflective lens in order to enrich the research
Ability to work in a team as well as deliver on individual components on time. . 
Fluency in Hindi and English.
Ability to write coherently in high quality English.
 
Period on Engagement: 11 months beginning 15th June 2021. 
 
Consultancy fees: INR 45,000-50,000 per month depending on educational qualification and experience
