About ISST

Institute of Social Studies Trust was registered in the year 1980. ISST's aim has been research and action for social change with a gender transformative approach to promote social justice, especially in favor of the marginalized. The organization has been carrying out a community action program through its two community centers, Saathi and Yuva Saathi, located within a slum community in East Delhi. The community action program envisages empowering women, children, and youth from disadvantaged households through community mobilization, legal action, information, educational inputs, and other services.

Job background and profile

There is an increasing realization that adolescents particularly those belonging to the underprivileged backgrounds too have strong aspirations for a better future, however, they often are unable to achieve them as they lack the needed support in the form of information, guidance, resources, and opportunities. Adolescent girls are found to be more vulnerable as they have to additionally deal with predominant gender norms that may conflict with their future ambitions. For this reason, ISST through its Yuva Saathi Center seeks to combine its strength in research and community action to understand the circumstances and aspirations of adolescents and youth and to create an enabling environment for realizing the aspirations, particularly of girls living in the slum settlements of Delhi and create a plan of intervention to support girls in their effort to meet their aspirations.

ISST is looking for a ‘Project Coordinator’ for the Yuva Saathi Center, the role has been briefly described below.

The job will entail the following:

  • Mobilize the community and youth for participation in the project
  • Support and guide the team engaged with youth from the community
  • Facilitate regular meetings with community members
  • Coordinate, design, and undertake training with adolescent girls and youth
  • Organize local level events and meetings with adolescent girls and youth
  • Provide counseling to girls and youth
  • Liaise with external partners and resource persons and coordinate relevant activities
  • Support in data collection and analysis for relevant research at the Yuva Saathi Center.
  • Write regular reflective process recordings and document the daily activities

Essential Criteria:

  • Postgraduate degree in Social Work
  • Basic understanding of addressing gender-based issues at the community level.
  • At least 3-4 years of experience directly working with youth and children
  • Sound knowledge and previous experience of counseling
  • Ability to facilitate group activities and training using participatory techniques
  • Ability to work in teams
  • Excellent communication/interpersonal skills in English and Hindi
  • Demonstrated ability in documentation and report making
  • Passionate about working directly with urban youth from low-income areas.

  • Ability to lead projects independently and complete work targets on time
  • A high interest in working directly with communities
  • Hardworking and committed to collaborative working styles
  • Lives close to East Delhi/Kalyanpuri

Compensation: According to the industry standards based on the knowledge, skills, and experience of the candidate.
