Ms. Shiney Chakraborty , Research Analyst

Shiney submitted her PhD thesis at Centre for Economic Studies and Planning, Jawaharlal Nehru University in July 2018 and joined ISST as a Research Analyst in August 2018. Her doctoral thesis titled "Gender Wage Discrimination in the Indian Labour Market, 1993-94 to 2011-12" provides a detailed description of the reasons of decline in women's recognized workforce participation rate, magnitude and evolution of employment pattern, occupational segregation and wage gaps. While pursuing her PhD she worked as a Project Associate at National Institute of Public Finance and Policy, New Delhi on the Project "Understanding Governance and Public Finance Bottlenecks in Achieving Development Goals in Madhya Pradesh". She is a recipient of ICSSR Doctoral fellowship for the periods 2015 - 2017. She also wrote a Chapter "UN Reports and Data Collection'' with Prof.Jayati Ghosh for the publication of a book by UNIC to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the UN, called project Young@70.

She also holds an M.Phil degree from University of Calcutta and served as a Guest Lecturer in Bhairab Gangully College (under West Bengal State University) for the period 2010-2011. Her areas of interest are labour and employment, gender-related issues, Indian economy, development economics and statistics. She has presented her papers at various national conferences and published articles in different journals. In ISST, she is associated with a project titled ''Creating Momentum for Gender Transformative Programming and Advancing Gender'' sponsored by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation which focusses on different issues related to women's economic empowerment through workshops and research.
