Since 1980 Institute of Social Studies Trust has played a critical role in building the discourse on gender dimensions of labor highlighting issues of women’s participation in the labor force, recognizing the continuum of their paid and unpaid work, the need for social protection, role of women in the emerging platform economy. ISST has played a critical role in developing the domain of capacity building in gender transformative evaluations. Position 1: Consultant Fund Raising and Advocacy

The Consultant Fund Raising and Advocacy brings strategic, creative, and critical thinking, and embraces working independently and collaboratively with the senior team on a variety of themes.  This person has the ability to work with partner organizations and allies to achieve mutually beneficial goals. This person is passionate about women’s economic empowerment and can convert critical research findings into policy agenda and fundraising.

This person has a proven track of identifying donor resources – domestic, international organizations, multilateral organizations, CSRs, and individual philanthropists and writing proposals for long-term organizational sustainability


This person needs to have a deep understanding of issues of women's economic empowerment to strengthen our policy advocacy work and expand funding streams, especially domestic funding to support the organisation's programs. This requires the person to be highly familiar with the above themes.  

Key Responsibilities

·        Compile and maintain a database of international and local donor organizations (international foundations, bilateral and multilateral agencies, and private corporations offering donations and grants and individual philanthropists)

·        Regularly monitor donor websites and identify and inform donor opportunities matching the work of the organization.

·        Write and Develop concept notes, project ideas and project proposals, and budgets to meet the growing needs of the organization and ensure their timely submission

·        Actively engage in building relationships with diverse agencies and organizations to project and further the funding and advocacy requirements of the organization.

·        Undertake independent research in finding alternative resources for the long-term sustainability of the organization

·        Analyze key national and international policy trends in areas related to ISST’s work, with a specific focus on the women and work and the field of gender-transformative evaluations as they relate to and support the advancement of ISST’s programming in the coming 4-5 years.

·        Build strong relationships with the research team leads and community project teams to draw upon and provide inputs to sharpen the policy agenda.

·        Design and conduct events that would highlight ISST’s programming and advocacy positioning, ensuring key decision-makers and stakeholders are present.

·        Work closely with the communications team to design content to fulfill the above


·        A Masters's degree preferably in Gender studies /Human Rights/ Public Policy

·        Minimum of 12 years of proven experience covering the fields of women’s development, fund raising and advocacy.

·        Familiarity with working of government, donors, corporates and NGOs

·        Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing in English and Hindi

·         Fluent   MSWord/ MS Excel, Power Point  and use of social media.

·        Effective presentation and persuasion skills – oral and written.

·        Ability to take initiative and work collaboratively.

·        Self motivated and performance driven.

·        Networking skills


·        Familiar with one or more regional language

·        Prior work experience in women’s economic empowerment

Remuneration: Commensurate with the work experience of the candidate and organizational norms


Position 2. : Consultant Communication and IT

Consultant Communications and IT brings strategic, creative, and critical thinking, and embraces working independently and collaboratively with the senior team to amplify the work of the organization. The person is passionate about developing and implementing the external communication and media strategies of ISST, including but not limited to website, social media, newsletters, press contacts, and briefings.

 This person is quick to grasp the essence of the issues and achievements of the project teams and able to present them using appropriate communications formats.

Key Responsibilities:

·        Website and social media: Develop and Maintain the ISST website and social media outlets, ensure growth of audience and engagement.

·        Dissemination and outreach: Writing dynamic content, ensuring synergies between
the Research work, Gender and Evaluation, and the Community Programs in keeping with the vision of ISST.

·        Proactively work to enhance the visibility of ISST’s work through various media strategies including press contacts for various ISST events – courses, workshops, Publications, campaigns, etc. 

·        Database management: Managing and expanding the database for dissemination of ISST publications/events.

·        Branding and design: Overseeing communication and branding of ISST Programmes including layout and design of publications.

·        Identify the IT infrastructure required to maintain an updated repository of the work of ISST.

·        Work with the Program Teams to develop content and support them to archive work of completed projects in a structured manner that is easy to retrieve when required.

·        Integrate the Library database with the website for easy access to various resources.

·        Seamless integration of the Gender and Evaluation Online platform managed by ISST with the website of ISST.

·        Work with the Fundraising and Advocacy Consultant and the Program Teams to develop the content.

Qualifications and Competencies

  • Post Graduate qualification in Communications, Media Studies, Journalism, Literature, Public Information, and /or courses on gender, human rights, and development communication.
  • Minimum of 10 years relevant work experience
  • Proven technical knowledge of a wide range of multimedia, web and digital tools is required,
    including MailChimp, digital survey tools, design tools such Canva and website software such as Word Press
  • Outstanding article-writing and editing skills.
  • Effective use of Social media to promote the enhance the visibility of the various projects and achievements of the program teams.
  • Well developed understanding of development communication.
  • Working knowledge of back-end IT requirements related to communications.
  • Networking skills
